Natalia Novaro is a visual artist specializing in sumie, a traditional Japanese form of ink painting. Her artistic practice primarily includes works developed using this technique, which allows her to explore the energies and movements of water on tracing paper, creating a microcosm that reflects the cosmos of the open ocean. Always connected to the sea, her paintings arise from a spiritual identification with its imagery and from observing the seascapes of the Atlantic coast and Antarctica.

In her book The Light of the Sea, Voyages to the Southern Ocean and Antarctica, she tells us: “An idea that often stays with me is that water, just as it is an effective transmitter of sounds, temperatures, and different forms of waves and movements, is also a messenger of some kind of subtle, immaterial information. Perhaps this feeling stems from the fact that the life of our species arises from water, and that perhaps we have never completely severed some deep bond that makes us remain as close as possible to the shore, under the powerful fascination of the ocean.”
